Birchwood Counseling Services
In the midst of challenging experiences, it’s easy to find oneself lost in the chaos created by fears and worries. Anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and unexpected changes can leave individuals feeling uncertain and, at times, without hope of ever healing. Healing begins when a choice is made to embrace uncertainty and take a step towards change.
Birchwood Counseling Services ensures that clients never have to take a single step alone. Within the safety of their counseling space and through a strong relationship built on trust, they aim to help clients’ transformations resemble that of the birch tree: powerfully grounded, continually growing, and aware of when it is time to let go.

Ashley Jansma MA LPC, Director
West Michigan has been home to Ashley Jansma for the past 8 years, and she is thrilled to practice counseling in the heart of a community she loves. Ashley’s story began on the east side of the state, where she graduated from Rochester Adams High School before continuing on to Central Michigan University.
There, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and immediately pursued her Master of Arts in Professional and School Counseling. Through various experiences at Central, she found her passion for trauma work and deepened her love for working with children and adolescents.
Upon graduation, Ashley completed contractual work with the U.S. Navy, providing sexual aggression and bystander intervention education and advocacy to sailors and marines.
She transitioned into direct therapy work in Grand Rapids with two local non-profits for 7 years before pursuing her dream of opening her own counseling practice. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and daughters, exploring Michigan State Parks, baking, and DIY home improvement projects.
Ashley works with children (Age 3+), adults, and families coping with a wide range of concerns. Her areas of strength include anxiety, depression, grief and loss, PTSD, sexual abuse, problematic sexualized behaviors (children aged 3-10), and trauma. Additionally, she is formally trained in EMDR and TFCBT for children.
