What is definition of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) in Therapeutic Approaches?

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) is a therapeutic approach developed by psychologist Albert Ellis. It is a form of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that focuses on identifying and changing irrational beliefs and thought patterns that contribute to emotional distress and unhealthy behaviors.

REBT is based on the idea that our thoughts, beliefs, and interpretations of events influence our emotions and behaviors. According to REBT, it is not the events themselves that cause emotional problems, but rather our irrational beliefs about those events.

The therapy process involves identifying and challenging irrational beliefs through a process of philosophical questioning and logical analysis. The therapist helps the client to recognize their irrational beliefs, dispute them with evidence and rational thinking, and replace them with more constructive and rational beliefs.

REBT aims to help individuals develop healthier, more rational ways of thinking and responding to life’s challenges. It emphasizes self-acceptance, self-esteem, and personal responsibility. The ultimate goal is for individuals to achieve emotional well-being and lead more fulfilling lives.
